If you have no faith that you can and will lose weight, then you cannot and will not lose weight. Faith is both a scientific and a spiritual principle. It is spiritual in the sense that it cannot be perceived by the five senses. For example, you can see the effects of the blowing wind, but you cannot see the wind or what is causing the wind. Faith is scientific in the sense that there is a particular method by which faith causes the effects it desires depending on how the mind is structured or how it works.

If you know how the mind works, you can have a reality-based faith that it will produce the results you want. – But then it is no longer faith or belief; now is a knowledge. You know it’s going to work just like you know that two plus two equals four. All you have to do is know and apply the method.

So how does the mind work and what is the corresponding method? The first thing to understand is that what we are talking about here is self-control. We were not designed with wonderful physical, mental and emotional faculties without the means or the method to control them. That wouldn’t make any sense at all. You would not have arms and legs and you would not be in control of moving them virtually the way you want to move or use them. Similarly, you would not have thoughts and feelings without also having the means to control those thoughts and feelings. The same goes for your appetite. You cannot have an appetite without also having the means to control it.

The second thing to understand is that overeating is a habit, and all habits, good, bad, or neutral, are in the subconscious part of your mind. And the only way to deal with something that is subconscious is to separate yourself from what you are used to. Your habit is a mental and / or emotional attachment, to food in this case, and the opposite of attachment is detachment.

So the solution or method is mentally and emotionally to take off yourself from the foods you are eating, while you are eating them. You and food are not one thing, but two separate entities. The method is to keep the two separate. Keeping them in their respective positions. One as only supplier of fuel to live, the other as only consumer of fuel to live. Everything else is secondary, like how good it tastes, looks and smells, how nutritious, the amount of fat and calories, etc.

Separating yourself from food in this way gives you the clarity to know if you are eating for the right or wrong reason, to know when the body is satiated, and the power to stop effortlessly at that exact point.
