How to do smokey eye makeup

Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan, and just about every pretty girl on the block has done it. It’s only going to be another hour and you don’t want to show up to the party with that old cool not so hot makeup trick that you yourself want to finish. Learning how to do smoky eye makeup should be at the top of your list, unless you want to disappear into the dark.

An eyeshadow application starts with a good eye primer applied all over the eyelid. Make sure that the eye primer is of a good quality, that it does not melt or cake in the creases of the eyelids. Apply a transparent stick of dark colored eye shadow to the lower part of the eyelid, sweeping and blending the dark shade to the crease line of the eyes. Place a slightly extended arc, like a rainbow, a little over the outer side of the crease, making sure that the application on both eyes is even and even.

Then, using a medium sized eyeshadow brush, dip into a deep purple pigment eyeshadow and apply over the dark base of the eye. Dark purple is recommended for green or blue-eyed girls, while dark brown suits brown-eyed women. The smoky eye shade can be achieved through eyeliner that should be applied to the upper lash. A gray or brown smoky eye can be achieved using an eyeliner in those colors. Apply a thicker line to the middle of the lash line. The key word in creating smokey eyes is blending. Smudge and blend this lighter eyeliner in upward motions to create a smoky effect.

The next step is to apply a lighter base eyeshadow color to the upper part of the eyelid. Sweep this light shade from side to side across the entire upper lid down to the brow bone. Use an eyeshadow brush to blend the color up from the lash line. You’ll know the smudged and smoky effect is achieved when the liner disappears with your upward strokes. Also put eyeliners under the eyes to define and blend along the upper lash line. Add a shimmering black shade by lightly brushing along the edge of the eyes, along the liner with a soft-edged brush.

Check if the two eyes are made evenly and make adjustments. The good thing about smokey eyes is that you can never go wrong if you do it too much. A well blended dark shade will have the right smoky effect when blended correctly. You can always add a darker shade if you want more prints. Just remember to blend along the way and keep the dark shade on the lower lid, not the top under the brows. Needless to say, create your smokey eyes in a well-lit room to save time and avoid mistakes.

Knowing how to do smoky eye makeup will not only increase your star quality, but it will also save you a lot of money. For all you know, the smoky trend could linger for quite some time.
