Masturbation, rubbing with the penis and some interesting facts

Men around the world have a wide spectrum of masturbation beliefs and practices. In the United States, masturbation has a slight tinge of taboo, which means some people will easily lie about how often they engage in this favorite personal pastime. However, more and more men are realizing that good penile care must include masturbation, whether with or without a partner. Are the taboos surrounding masturbation finally breaking down?

Facts about masturbation

Some men masturbate so much that their main concern becomes chafing on the penis. Others masturbate rarely and then feel overwhelmed with guilt if someone asks them about it. A recent study on masturbation in the United States, sponsored by TENGA, found several surprising facts about how often men take matters into their own hands. These are some of the most interesting finds.

1. When a group of people were asked what percentage of the male population masturbates regularly, they guessed it was around 84%. But the truth is much bigger: at least 95% of men please themselves. That means that the vast majority of guys enjoy their private time in a pretty sensual way!

2. How often do you play solo? The survey found that men typically come about 15 times a month from masturbation alone. That’s an average of once every two days. And the younger a man is, the more he does it. Millennials do it 15 times a month, while Gen Xers do it 12 times and Baby Boomers do it seven times a month.

3. Why do they do it? For most, relieving sexual tension was the main reason. Almost the same number of men used it for sexual pleasure or relaxation and stress relief. About a quarter of all men surveyed used masturbation as a sleep aid.

4. About 13% of the men surveyed used masturbation as a way to improve their sexual performance with a partner. For most of them, that might mean masturbating before a hot date to make sure that if they do end up in bed, they can last longer. For others, that could mean that they are using masturbation to explore what feels good, so they can then explain what they need to their partner.

5. Sometimes masturbation isn’t just about using your hands. Twenty percent of men in the United States own a sex toy, and 58% say their masturbation improves when they add that toy to the mix.

6. Masturbation is becoming more of a couples thing rather than a solo event. Twenty-five percent of Millennials have masturbated with a partner via electronic means, such as video chat or phone. A whopping 95% of those who masturbated with a partner rated it as a “very good” or “excellent” experience.

7. But, on the other hand, some may find that masturbation creates a problem in their sensual lives. Twenty-one percent of people surveyed said masturbation was more pleasurable than bedroom time with their partner.

8. And those taboos could still be in place. About half of those surveyed lied about their masturbation habits to others, citing shame and fear of being judged. The average age of those who felt most uncomfortable talking about it? Those who were 24 years old.

Masturbation is obviously an important part of a man’s life. Proper technique can help prevent penile chafing, just like a top-notch penile health cream. (Health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven to be gentle and safe for skin.). Those who want to fully enjoy masturbation should look for a cream that includes certain nutrients, such as acetyl-L carnitine, which is known to help with peripheral nerve damage that can result from rough handling. A cream should also have a high-end emollient as a base, such as shea butter and vitamin E, to keep skin soft and supple.
