Tabitha Fink and the Patchwork Pirates

Climb aboard a pirate ship, mates, and get ready for a fun adventure with a very famous cat: Tabitha Fink!

In her latest adventure, Tabitha Fink the one-eyed cat is about to set sail to search for buried treasure. She has a ship, with a flag that she made, and also a beautiful patchwork sail. The best part is that her good friend, Bartholomew the mouse, will be her first companion. The couple look quite stylish in their pirate outfits and they’re ready to set sail… almost. They’ve got the clothes, they’ve got a ship and a map to buried treasure, but they need a crew! What will they do?

The pirates soon have a plan: they put up a sign to find their crew:

Pirates in sight!

I want three happy pirates,

two girls and a boy.

No experience necessary.

We’ll show you the ropes.

Please share our journey,

our dreams and our hopes.

Tabitha is excited when three would-be pirates apply and quickly welcomes them to the crew. But Bartholomew is perplexed, as he is certain that the three new pirates do not have what it takes for the long voyage. The first is a cook who likes to bake cakes, the second is a tubista, and the last new partner is a cowgirl. How are they going to find the buried treasure with such an inexperienced crew?

“For the last time,

This doesn’t look right to me.”

shouted Bartholomew Blink

feel misunderstood

“She can’t say Arrr!

this is something to keep in mind.

Without pirates, we won’t stay afloat!”

But Tabitha Fink is sure that her new team, with their very different talents, are just what they need:

“This cowgirl seems smart and

talented too,” said wise Tabitha

Fink, “look at all he can do!”

The ship soon sets sail and while Tabitha Fink and the three new pirates are ready for adventure, Bartholomew is convinced that they are getting into trouble. When they come across a huge whale trying to sink the ship, the little mouse is sure they are about to sink…

This is the first book in the popular “Tabitha Fink” series that I have read and I was immediately drawn to the lovely story. Tabitha Fink and her best friend Bartholomew are the perfect couple, and the pirate adventure on the high seas is something every young reader will love. The illustrations add a fun aspect to the story as they are fun, colorful and the facial expressions of the pirates tell the story perfectly. When Bartholomew has reservations about the new team, the kids will see and learn how great it is when we all come together to share our different talents. Bartholomew learns an important lesson that is easily shared with young readers, for like “Patchwork Pirates” who come from diverse backgrounds, we can come together to solve the toughest problems. Finally, the author has chosen to tell the story in a simple rhyme that flows very naturally and brings the story to a very satisfying conclusion. Now I think it’s time to go back and check out the other Tabitha Fink stories!
