GFRC (Fiberglass Reinforced Concrete) Cleaning

The best solution to having a clean finish project at the end of construction is to avoid staining during the construction project. It is important to protect the GFRC during storage, adjustment and after installation. GFRC should be stored above ground on non-staining planks or skids. The GFRC (Fiberglass Reinforced Concrete) storage site should be out of the way of heavy construction traffic. If GFRC is to be stored for an extended period of time, it should be stored on pallets and covered with non-staining plastic or tarps. Once installed, the pilasters, columns, window frames, panels, etc. from GFRC. it must be protected with plastic material that does not stain during the rest of the construction.

After construction, a final wash may be necessary. The use of acids or brick cleaners is not recommended. The most common construction stain is dirt. Dirt can be removed from GFRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete) by scrubbing with a mild detergent and water. When other stains are found, the most important step is to identify the stain and its cause. Any treatment used to clean GFRC should be tested on a small, inconspicuous area before cleaning the main units.

Pressure washing and sandblasting or procedures not recommended for cleaning GFRC (Fiberglass Reinforced Concrete). Metal fiber brushes should not be used to scrub GFRC (Fiberglass Reinforced Concrete) as they can scar the surface, and small metal debris from the brush left on the GFRC can later rust or corrode and cause stains.
