There are times of the year, like Valentine’s Day, Christmas, and anniversaries, when women often think it would be nice to give their partner a sexy picture or two of her. Unfortunately, photographers who do this as a specialty are few and far between. Many who advertise it as an afterthought (which is not their specialty) don’t do the female form justice, and don’t really understand the subtleties of helping a woman relax for the camera while sitting in her pretty panties. . Shooting weddings or babies is a long way from understanding how to pose and light a woman so she looks like a centerfold model.

Do your research. How long has the photographer been in business? Not just what he says in his advertising. Do a Google search for the name of his studio; you should literally find page after page of search results. If he or she has been in business for, say, 10 years or more, there should be plenty of search results just by typing her name. If you can’t find much about them, chances are they haven’t been around very long.

Many high end studios with a lot of experience can charge much more, but they also offer some unique products such as coffee table books and canvas wall portraits. As a point of reference, in my study, the average customer may be looking to invest around $800.
Is retouching included? Some photographers charge more for it, some don’t. I think the price you pay should always include retouching charges. You will want touch ups. Don’t think for a minute that makeup, lighting, and posing take care of everything. It doesn’t, and it never will. Not when so much skin is showing. Baby photos are cute with fat rolls, boudoir photos are not. Stretch marks, razor bumps, misplaced hairs, and yes, blemishes do happen, and most of the time, the only way to correct them is with digital retouching. If you think the ladies on magazine covers, models and celebrities, and Playboy centerfolds walk straight off camera looking like this, then you’ve got another thing coming up. I myself know that if I was selling reality, I would have been out of business a long time ago. Retouching done right will enhance your assets and minimize your liabilities. Trust me, you will want touch ups.
Customer recommendations. Especially when you don’t know the photographer beforehand, make sure they have some sort of list of clients who are thrilled with what you’ve done for them. A photo of the person, their full name, city and state will make the testimony more credible. Look for phrases like “I can’t believe how comfortable she was” and “She was so relaxed and the photos came out wonderfully.” Testimonials that are only a few words and only have initials instead of a person’s full name are likely fabricated, or the photographer did not have permission to quote that person. I think the photographer’s website should be full of testimonials from satisfied customers.
The guarantee. Very little in life is guaranteed. But a photographer who guarantees his work produces a product he is proud to stand behind. Any top-notch photographer offers a written satisfaction guarantee that he’ll be happy to either retake the photos, or get her money back. A written guarantee means that this photographer is confident not only in his skills, but also that you will walk away happy with the photos he has created. Always ask for your warranty.
Samples of your work. This should go without saying. You just have to like what they have already done for other clients. Look for samples on their website of poses and lighting styles that you like.
