It was the year 1992 that the use of the term forensic nursing began. It was a team of about 70 nurses who started it all. The first forensic nursing case began with the diagnosis of the forensic team which was an examination of a sexual assault, this examination and the team’s effort led to the formation of an international association known as the IAFN or International Association of Forensic Nurses.

Forensic nursing is quite a different field than general nursing; Forensics is that form of nursing that deals with the collection of evidence and dealing with victims. There are a lot of investigations going on and these investigations depend on the forensic nurses and the type of work they do. Forensic nursing also deals with conducting various death investigations and even deals with criminals and even victims of sexual assault. There are other jobs that sometimes fall under forensic nursing as well, these can be counseling any child who has strayed off the path, and there are chances that on occasion in nursing you may even be asked to train your colleagues to fight injuries and treat injured patients.

Forensic nursing is basically a specialized clinical job that appears at the time of any accident or even police activities. The number of career opportunities in the case of forensic nursing is enormous and these are ample career opportunities that are available. Forensic nursing is required in investigative fields. There are chances for forensic nurses to get jobs with the FBI or even other detective agencies. Mostly the work is within agencies that are related to crime investigation or even other investigative purposes.

The importance of forensic medicine is constantly increasing and with the crime rate increasing day by day, the use of the field of forensic nursing is also increasing. Forensic science has become an important part of everyone’s life similar to detective agencies or other security as forensic science is concerned with finding out the exact reasons behind the crime and placing the motives and evidences in the correct place.

Clinical nursing can be described as a new perspective in the field of science and research that deals with crime management and victim related activities. Forensic nursing has opened up many resources for nurses and made their work more challenging and even interesting. The field of forensic science has been of great help to the judiciary and has even stood out as the crowning success in many ways and many times in defining and ushering in any deferred case of investigation or any crime.

The outreach of women in the field of nursing has improved and thus has given them freedom to explore other sides of their profession as well, and has also given them a valuable tool in the hands of the judiciary with the help of which the judiciary can catch criminals.

Not only the criminal aspect, but also the professional aspects, forensic nursing is a high paying job and nurses can lead a well established life after it.
