Lemon Verbena – A slimming tea and cellulite remover?

Lemon Verbena (Aloysia triphylla) is just one of the specialty herbs grown on the Greek island of Crete. Crete is, of course, the home of the Cretan diet, which has been scientifically proven to be the healthiest diet in the world and is a close cousin to the Mediterranean diet.

Lemon Verbena is a small deciduous evergreen shrub known for its lemony citrus fragrance and it smells wonderful. When crushed, the leaves of this wonderfully fragrant plant give off a gorgeous lemony-citrus scent.

It reportedly has many health benefits, including acting as an antidepressant and digestive aid, helping with metabolism. A tea made from the leaves of this herb is very calming and slightly sedative as well.

Although not native to the Greek island of Crete, lemon verbena has become a firm favorite among Cretans for use as a tea or tisane. It is becoming famous as a weight loss herb to help reduce cellulite.

This versatile herb is sold on the Greek island of Crete at farmers’ markets and in village stores as a diet tea. Packets of the fresh-smelling dried leaves of this plant are often labeled “Slimming Tea” or “Weight Loss Tea.”

In addition to drinking the tea for weight loss, women use the herb as an aid to reduce cellulite. An important tip for this is to use lemon verbena as a scrub.

To make a good homemade scrub to reduce cellulite, grind up some of the dried leaves and mix them with ground oats. Add a little olive oil to form a paste. Use it every day before you shower to combat stubborn cellulite.

So both internally and externally, lemon verbena can be used to improve health and beauty!
